The person behind Cactus

Hi, I'm Alex and I'm the person behind Cactus.

I've been building websites for nearly 20 years, ever since I started experimenting with HTML and design as a child. I love combining technical thinking with design to create something people genuinely enjoy using.

Today, alongside running Cactus, I work as a software engineer on a website used by millions of people every day. That experience has taught me what it takes to build and maintain digital products at scale and it shapes the way I approach every project.

I work mainly with sole traders and small businesses because I like building websites that feel personal. That's why I spend time really getting to know the people behind the business. I can then make sure that the website really represents who they are and what makes their business different.

I believe websites should be intuitive and enjoyable to use. The website itself should get out of the way so that the content shines through. That's why I build websites that look great but, more importantly, have personality and help your business grow.

When you work with me, you'll deal directly with the person designing and building your site from start to finish.
